Biography

Emily is an Associate Landscape Architect and specializes in transformational cycling and walking projects around New Zealand. She has over nine years of experience, working on various projects in the role of Design Manager and lead Landscape Architect, managing and delivering multidisciplinary projects. In 2019 Emily was selected as one of 30 from around the world to attend a Summer School programme at the University of Amsterdam. She spent the first half of July 2019 engaged in a course titled ‘Planning a Cycling City.’ The course explores planning, practicalities and the motivations for cycling and how we can better plan and design for cyclists.

Biography

Glen has worked in the NZ transport sector for over 25 years, as a transportation engineer and researcher. He specialises in road safety and sustainable transport, with particular interest and expertise in walking & cycling and speed/traffic management. Glen has been investigating walking/cycling infrastructure and safety for about 20 years and has travelled extensively to study overseas practices in these areas. His research and policy work has included non-motor vehicle cycle crashes, delays at pedestrian crossings, user perceptions of cycling infrastructure, changes to walk/cycle road rules, safety benefits of cycle lanes, pedestrian/cycle railway crossings, cycling fatalities in New Zealand, regulations for e-bikes and other low-powered devices, ‘Bikes in Schools’ programmes, and neighbourhood greenways. Since 2003, Glen has also developed and delivered over 40 industry training courses in planning/design for walking and cycling. He is a member of the NZTA Active Modes Infrastructure Group (AMIG) and is heavily involved in the development and ongoing updating of NZTA's Cycle and Pedetsrian Network Guidance. Glen joined ViaStrada in 2016, having spent the previous 12 years with the University of Canterbury, and prior to that with Opus International Consultants. At ViaStrada, he works for a wide variety of national and local clients providing expert advice on traffic and transportation matters, and helping to develop best-practice transport facilities and guidelines. He has a PhD in Transportation Engineering, as well as Masters and Bachelors degrees in civil engineering and computer science.

Biography

Kylie is a Senior Transport Planner at Stantec based in Dunedin. Kylie has worked in the transport industry for 15 years in New Zealand and Australia, and has extensive local government expertise from her previous roles. She has specialised in cycle network planning and business case development and is passionate about providing transport choice and equity. One of Kylie’s key strengths is the ability to ‘tell the story’, translating technical information and processes to deliver key messages to diverse audiences. Many of the projects Kylie is involved in aim to balance access, manage competing demands, optimise multi-modal networks and improve safety and amenity
