Mr Michael Jongeneel
Associate Transportation Engineer
Flow Transportation Specialists
Co-presenting Northern Pathway: Akoranga to Constellation Drive
2:45 PM - 3:00 PMBiography
Michael walks the fine line between traffic engineering and transport planning, and steadfastly refuses to commit to being either. His background is in transport modelling and the economic evaluation of transport investments, but his heart lies in building healthy, accessible and sustainable communities. Combining these, he has applied his analytical perspective to walking, cycling and micro-mobility, and is responsible for developing transport models for these modes for both Auckland and Tauranga. Through these platforms Michael has been involved in most major cycling projects across both cities, including the Auckland Harbour Bridge shared path, New Lynn to Avondale shared path, Glen Innes to Tamaki Drive, Totara Street, and countless others, as well as the wider cycling programmes for both cities.
The son of a Dutch immigrant, Michael likes to think he’s genetically predisposed to cycling. But the number of times he’s fallen off his bike would suggest otherwise.
