Allan McConnell is a geotechnical engineer, with 50+ years experience in Australia, SE Asia and the Pacific. He founded the specialised geotechnical testing company Insitu Geotech Services (IGS) in the year 2000. Allan has experience in most aspects of geotechnical engineering. He is known for his past consulting work on major development projects, including many on soft soil sites, and for his “crusade” to reduce risk and uncertainty in geotechnical engineering. It is this passion for reducing risk and uncertainty that led to the evolution of IGS. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, a Registered Engineer in Queensland and an Honorary Life Member of the Australian Geomechanics Society.

Alan is the technical manager at Ground Investigation. People phone him when things go wrong, so he has seen lots of errors and problems with CPT data. Luckily he doesn't get phoned as much as he used to.
