Paul Minett has an MBA from University of Auckland, and twenty years of interest in alternative transportation solutions, particularly involving increased vehicle occupancy strategies. He has been principal investigator for several US-based research studies, including most recently the Congestion-Clearing Payments to Passengers project. He is a Research Associate with the San Jose State University. He is the holder of a patent for meeting-place based carpooling, and is a co-founder and managing director of Trip Convergence Ltd, a company formed to leverage the patent. He is based in Auckland.

Nick is the Chair of the Canterbury/West Cost Branch of Transportation Group New Zealand for 2019 and has a background in transport design, analysis and policy development. He has been following transportation trends technologies and business models for several years and led the work to develop a regulatory framework for micromobility in Christchurch. With a keen interest in transport land use interactions, he is interested in how different transport pricing pathways could have impacts on mobility, equity and urban form.

Dale is a planner, geospatial analyst and road safety practitioner with a broader interest in how urban transport systems can become more equitable, safer, sustainable and accessible for all users.
Being proudly ‘car-less’ in Christchurch for the past year, and mother to a nine-year old daughter, Dale is personally aware of the transport challenges for women, children and families.
In professional life, Dale is a Principal Transport and Spatial Advisor at Abley. Her current focus of work involves developing innovative geospatial analysis methodologies and creating data-driven tools that support targeted road trauma reduction.

Madison Salter graduated from the University of Auckland in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts (hons) in Geography. Her dissertation focused on the movement of policies from one jurisdiction to another and the process, actors and translation involved in this. At the beginning of 2019, she started as a Graduate Transportation Consultant at Harrison Grierson based in Auckland. Madison is interested in helping make all forms of transport, particularly public transport, a more equitable, safe place for all groups in society.

Melanie is a Principal Traffic Safety Engineer with over 23 years’ experience specialising in traffic engineering and road safety. She is based in the Transportation team at Stantec in Christchurch and is their Road Safety Practice Leader. Her role includes providing specific expertise to projects around New Zealand including applying the Safe Systems approach through safety auditing including for vulnerable road users, scheme design, crash analysis and temporary traffic management. Melanie has worked on a varied range of NZ Transport Agency, Local Authority and other key client projects.

I am a Graduate Transportation Engineer at Abley in Christchurch, New Zealand. Having graduated from the University of Canterbury, I have been working at Abley for the last year. I have had a range of diverse experience, working in business cases, network planning, land development, active modes and design.
I have lived in Denmark, which fostered my appreciation of well-planned cycle infrastructure and its positive effects on people’s quality of life. I currently live in Christchurch Central, and love everything the city has to offer. The future for Christchurch is bright and I’m excited to be involved in the regeneration of the city.

Case Study - Dunedin Separated Cycle lanes

Andrew is a Principal Engineer in the Dunedin Transportation team. For the last 18 years Andrew has been working for Stantec undertaking a variety of roles which now has him co-ordinating the design resources for Stantec, predominantly in the lower half of the South Island, but also more recently for projects in the Hawkes Bay and Auckland.
Andrew has worked on a large variety of national and international projects with some of the highlights being the Principal’s advisor role on the recently completed $50M Caversham Valley Safety Improvement Project; coordinating design staff in three countries to deliver $1 Billion worth of cyclone improvement works in Australia and more recently the delivery of the Separated Cycle Lanes along both one-way systems in Dunedin.

James was the project reviewer and is an ITS Engineer with over 18 years’ experience in the design, modelling, installation, commissioning of ITS & traffic signals infrastructure. He has a wide range of experience within the ITS industry ranging from the concept designs through to detailed system designs, installation supervision & management on site through to final commissioning on behalf of the future asset owners.
Claire was the lead modeller on this project and is a Transport Engineer at Jacobs with over five years’ experience. Since joining Jacobs in 2014, Claire has gained experience in both the roads engineering and transport planning disciplines. She has developed skills in transport planning and modelling, and pedestrian, cycling and public transport planning. Claire has software skills in VISSIM, VISUM, SIDRA, LINSIG and AIMSUN.
Claire moved to Wellington from Perth in 2016. Since then, Claire has been heavily involved in the Wellington Urban Cycleways Programme, the Wellington Smart Motorway and the NZ Transport Agency’s Weigh Right Programme. Claire brings international experience and knowledge from the projects she worked on around Australia, while growing local Wellington and New Zealand experiences.
Claire was the 2015 winner of the Australian Institute of Transport Planning and Management Young Professional of the year award for Western Australia.

Michael is considered Australia and New Zealand’s resident expert in reflectivity. He has been training sign makers and informing engineers and consultants about reflectivity for over 27 years in his time with 3M. He currently looks after the technical aspects of reflective sheetings and road markings for 3M for both New Zealand and Australia. He is a member of the Standards committee and has written parts of the current reflectivity standard.
