Karishma Kumar
Transport Policy Planner
Christchurch City Council
Planning for the future
11:39 AM - 11:41 AMBiography
I have over 3 years of experience in the transport planning industry. Before working for Christchurch City Council I was based in the UK, London. I started off my career in Influencing Travel Behaviour at JMP Consultants (now SYSTRA) where I worked on various projects to support and implement active travel initiatives. By facilitating stakeholder workshops and reviewing relevant policies I assisted and provided strategic input into Transport Strategies. I learnt how to manipulate survey data to analyse travel behaviour trends which provided technical input into projects. I was also seconded to a Local Council where I was leading a sustainable travel initiative for schools.
After my time at SYSTRA I moved to Transport Planning Associates where I worked as a Transport Planner in Development Planning. Daily I was responsible for writing high quality planning reports including Transport Assessment, Travel Plans, Delivery and Servicing Plans, Construction Management Plans and other technical documents to support an application. I learnt how to use AutoCAD and AutoTrack where I used this knowledge to provide technical input.
After my time at TPA I decided to take a year out and travel to Melbourne, Australia on a Working Holiday Visa. For a small period of time I worked for an independent consultancy where I developed and prepared a Transport Strategy for the Yarra Ranges Shire Council and assessed the feasibility for the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the City of Port Philip.
