Biography

Alan is a Chartered Engineer with a Masters Degree in Transportation and over 20 years’ experience of transport and infrastructure in New Zealand, the UK and Fiji. Originally from the UK, he has lived in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. He is currently Principal Transport Planner with Tonkin & Taylor in Hamilton, having previously been employed by MWH and Opus. Alan is passionate about transport and the outdoors and has competed in a number of triathlons and adventure races including the Goat as well as solo tramping the great walks and the Kaimai Ranges. He has put this to the test volunteering for LandSAR, both as a first response team member and as an active fundraiser. Alan is Chair of the Transportation Group NZ National Committee.

Biography

Katie is a Civil Engineer with 10+ years of experience in transportation engineering from feasibility stage through to detailed design and site implementation. Originally hailing from New York State, USA, she is a driven professional who is active in her community and has recently relocated to the Southern Branch after serving as Chair of the Canterbury/West Coast Branch of Transportation Group New Zealand in 2017. Katie obtained her Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the USA in 2013 and is in the process of registering as a New Zealand Chartered Professional Engineer. Katie spent her first two years in New Zealand with Abley Transportation Consultants and was involved in various traffic engineering projects including Integrated Transport Assessments, safety audits, intersection design and site layout reviews. The mountains of Central Otago beckoned to her however and she currently resides in Queenstown where she works as a Senior Project Engineer working on civil and roading projects. Katie's civil engineering degree qualification and design and construction background allows her to work effectively on multi-disciplinary projects with other professionals, understanding the needs and concerns of each area.
