Workplaces similarly have their own culture and personality. When you love your workplace it’s a joy to go to work. When it is less than ideal it can be hard to know what you can do to change it, other than to leave. This interactive workshop will cover a range of topics including dealing with bullying and harassment, how to build a better team culture, communication skills and how to have tough conversations.

Biography

Dr Samantha King is a graduate of Otago Medical School. She has worked in General Practice and A&M clinics in Auckland since 1991 and is a Fellow of the College of General Practitioners. She also holds a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a Masters in Healthcare Law and Ethics. She has been with MPS since 2012 and now works full time as a Medicolegal Consultant whilst still doing some clinical work. As a member of the Medical Protection faculty, Sam regularly presents at workshops, conferences and practices throughout New Zealand. Sam is married with 3 children. She enjoys kayaking and fishing.

Biography

Dr Lucy Gibberd is a Taranaki GP who has been a partner in her practice for 19 years. She joined MPS as a Medicolegal Consultant in 2015, having previously worked for the RNZCGP as a Medical Educator. She holds Diplomas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Dermatology and also gained a Masters in Healthcare Law and Ethics in 2018. She works half-time for Medical Protection and half-time in her practice. Having trained in the UK, she has been living in NZ since 1991 and now feels like she is just about a Kiwi.

Overview

Biography

Victoria is an experienced and astute legal adviser who regularly guides clients through disciplinary processes, charges and complaints in medical, employment and commercial matters. Victoria has particular expertise acting for healthcare providers in coronial inquests, HDC complaints and all Medical Council processes. Victoria has a wide array of experience including negligence, misconduct, and other investigations and processes by regulatory authorities. She represents clients in various disciplinary tribunals and courts, as well as in mediation and dispute resolution forums.
