Tania Jones is the Manager of the Regulatory Practice and Analysis branch of Medsafe, which includes the Medicinal Cannabis Agency.
She originally qualified with a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (majoring in medical microbiology and cytogenetics) followed by a Bachelor of Pharmacy, both at the University of Otago.
Following a short stint in community pharmacy in New Zealand, Tania embarked on an OE where she worked in London as a clinical pharmacist, and whilst there completed a postgraduate certificate in pharmacy practice through the University of London.
Upon return, in between stints on maternity leave, Tania continued working in clinical pharmacy with a particular interest in medicines information. Eight and half years ago she made the move to the Ministry of Health, originally working in the regulation of the medicines supply chain, and now in her current role managing the RPA branch, which includes responsibility for the regulatory frameworks for medicinal cannabis, industrial hemp and psychoactive substances, and provision of secretariat and technical support to the Expert Advisory Committee on Drugs. Recently she has completed a postgraduate certificate in public management through Victoria University.
