I have over 14 years in the New Zealand Police, the majority of which in the area of road policing. I have attended over 1000 crashes of which approximately 300 were serious injury or fatal crashes. I am the current national supervising instructor for crash investigation, where I instruct in the complex area of crash physics and dynamics. I am also a NZQA/NZTA certified Child Restraint Technician/Trainer/Assessor and a trustee on a national charity in relation to child restraints called Cheeks in Seats. I have a passion for reducing road deaths especially those that are preventable.

Melissa is a Community Transport Team Leader in the Walking, Cycling and Safety unit at Auckland Transport. She leads the development and delivery of the regional Travelwise Programme at over 400 schools. The programme is focused on increasing transport choices for young people, reducing congestion and improving road safety around schools and their local communities.

Hugh is Transport Choice Coordinator for Wellington City Council which focuses on increasing cycling as transport choice for Wellingtonians. Some of the programmes Hugh manages are WCC Bikes in Schools, Onzo public bike share, Communities on Bikes fund and now, Te Ara Tapere ki Pōneke – Open Streets in Wellington which is what this presentation focuses on.
