Biography

Glen joined ViaStrada in 2016, having spent the previous 12 years with the University of Canterbury, and prior to that with Opus International Consultants. He has a PhD in Transportation Engineering, as well as Masters and Bachelors degrees in civil engineering and computer science. At Canterbury, Glen taught and undertook research and consulting in a range of topics in transportation and traffic planning, traffic engineering and management, highway geometric design, road safety, engineering design, and professional engineering skills. Glen specialises in road safety and sustainable transport, with particular interest and expertise in walking & cycling and speed/traffic management.

With 10+ years’ of experience Den has amassed a diverse portfolio with a slant towards public realm projects. Den has a particular interest in people-first design solutions and enjoys the challenge of applying this methodology across a range of scales - from strategy through to construction.

Biography

Adi has spent the last two years developing and implementing the Small Townships Programme across Marlborough. This programme aims to provide an integrated planning and design process for improving outdoor public space in small communities. The framework links the aspirations of the community with good township design to create the kind of place where people want to live, work and play. Her previous experience as the Travel Behaviour Change Team Leader at North Shore City Council involved setting up a number of strategic, innovative and measureable programmes to improve safe and sustainable travel. It was this role, plus 25 years’ experience working for the Department of Conservation, local councils and running her own consultancy business that came together in developing the Small Townships programme.

Biography

Ping Sim is Safe System Lead at Auckland Transport. She works to tell the Vision Zero story and explore ways to embed Safe System thinking into business practices across the organisation.Ping believes connecting with people and listening to where they are now are the keys to taking people along the Safe System journey. Ping was commended for her role supporting the Auckland Road Safety Business Improvement Review, part of Auckland Transport’s journey to Vision Zero. She has 10 years’ experience in transport planning, demand management and road safety and holds a Master in Planning Practice (Hons) from Auckland University.

Biography

Fabian is Safe System Lead for the NZ Transport Agency and NZ Safe Roads Alliance. In this role Fabian is responsible for leading the implementation of Safe System road infrastructure to achieve Safer Roads and Roadsides. This involves promoting road safety best practices, drawing on international road safety innovation and bringing together technical knowledge. Fabian has also been active in developing policies and programmes associated with national road safety investment, road safety intervention prioritisation and Safe System change management. Fabian was previously Road Safety Advisor at Ashghal Public Works Authority in Qatar, working with key government agencies to develop Qatar’s National Road Safety Strategy and provide advice on the implementation and monitoring of key road safety initiatives. Fabian also led the development of best-practice road design standards and specifications and provided leadership on the implementation of road safety engineering improvement programmes. Fabian has previously worked in New Zealand as the National Traffic & Safety Manager at the New Zealand Transport Agency. Fabian has also worked in various road safety and forensic crash investigation roles at companies including the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) and the UK Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). Fabian has written numerous published technical papers and presented internationally on road safety and forensic crash investigation and is an experienced practitioner on the Safe System approach to road safety.
