Gerri has a lived experience of disability and has been active in the disabled community for 20 years. She has been actively collaborating with ‘good people’ working in decision making organisations to design inclusive services and infrastructure so that disabled people can live good lives alongside others in their communities and broader society.
Disabled Person’s Assembly is a member organization of the DPO Coalition which works with government to ensure the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UNCRPD). The Coalition is currently working with government agencies and the Office for Disability Issues to develop the next Disability Strategy.

Five years ago Judy returned to Hamilton after 13 years working for the Office for Disability Issues in policy. She joined Hamilton City Council in 2014 as the Disability Advisor. Her role is to implement, monitor and report on the city’s Disability Policy and its Action Plan.
Judy says two passions of her’s are community engagement (and advocacy) and public transport and its supporting infrastructure.
She says she uses public transport frequently, travelling nationally and overseas independently on it.

Putting people first: accessibility and universal design in public transport

Elise is the Principal Specialist Universal Access and Design for the Auckland Design Office. She is involved in design review of major transport and public realm projects as well as the development of accessibility frameworks and strategies. Elise hosts the Universal Design Forum collaboratively developing the Universal Design Hub of the Auckland Design Manual. She is Auckland Council’s Deputy Officer for the Disability Advisory Panel.

Emerging mobility devices in an uncertain future – the hire e-scooter craze

Iain McAuley
Iain works mainly on road safety strategy and implementation. He was involved in the development of Safer Journeys 2010-20 and is currently involved in the new road safety strategy Road to Zero. Iain has a particular interest in speed management, active mode safety and emerging mobility devices, such as E-scooters. Iain’s research interests include new and emerging paradigms to integrate multiple transport objectives – safety, health, liveability and sustainability.
