Fiáin is the Chief Biking Officer for non-profit advocacy group Bike Auckland. Prior to this role they were Bike Auckland's Community Activation Manager, leading the Bike 'Burb programme which supports community-led modeshift across the region. Fiáin has a passion for inclusivity, in particular in reducing barriers to cycling for disabled people and spreading awareness that a bike can be a mobility aid. Fiáin was born and raised in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, where they stayed to complete a Bachelor of Environmental Planning from Waikato University. During their studies they were part of the youth-led climate advocacy group Generation Zero and assisted with the 'What's the Hold-Up' speaking tour. Coincidentally, this is when they were first made aware of the huge glaring gap in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's transport network; the need for walking and cycling access across te Waitematā. After University they explored Melbourne, fell in love with the trains and trams, then directed the Hamilton Fringe Festival before moving to Tāmaki Makaurau. Now they are part of the movement calling to Liberate the Lane on the existing Harbour Bridge for walking and cycling to make our region more accessible, equitable, sustainable, and overall more joyful.
