Biography

Over 41 years with New Zealand Police have provided Peter with opportunities to amass extensive policing skills, knowledge and experience. Roles have included criminal investigations, emergency response, community policing, family harm prevention and strategic change. Though several national leadership roles in Road Policing over the past twelve years, incorporating cross-agency and wider sector collaboration, Peter has developed into one of the most experienced and trusted experts in road safety. His strategic, evidence-based approach has enabled him to influence shifts in strategies, policies and legislation to reduce harm on the roads. Peter’s attributes have led to other opportunities over recent years, including successful leadership of a national firearms security and storage project to address organisational risks and a very rewarding five-year leadership and mentoring role in Vanuatu as part of the Pacific Prevention of Domestic Violence Programme. Peter currently leads a significant programme that will see Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency transition ownership and operation of traffic safety cameras transition from Police, alongside implementing a new, strategically aligned solution for managing Officer-issued infringement notices, and introducing remote controlled tyre deflation devices to greatly improve Police Officer safety and effectiveness in response to fleeing driver incidents.
