Serious Accident Leading Indicators: Protecting Vulnerable Users Through Artificial Intelligence

11:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Conference presentation

Overview

Biography

Peter co-founded VivaCity Labs in 2015 with two friends he met at Cambridge University during his tenure as Chief Engineer on the Cambridge University Solar Racing Team. As a group of eco-conscious cyclists, the friends wanted to build products that would make the experience of cycling in urban areas safer and more efficient. Initially envisaging improving how traffic signal junctions behave for cyclists, they were surprised to find that there was not a reliable cyclist detection sensor on the market that could cope with the free-form nature of urban environments. Consequently, they set about building a world beating cyclist sensor, which quickly morphed into a "detect and classify all road users" sensor as the first product. Fast forward to 2023, and more than 3,500 of those sensors have collected nearly 25 Billion user movements in over 100 of the world’s leading cities, including London, New York, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Melbourne and most recently, Wellington. Peter has a Masters in Engineering, and prior to VivaCity worked at Portsmouth Naval Base and with Frazer-Nash Consulting, heading projects across the oil, civil nuclear, and renewables industries.
