Bridget is a Principal Researcher at MRCagney, based in Hamilton. She works on transport research, policy, and practice for a variety of government, university, and private sector clients around New Zealand. Bridget is a Chartered Engineer in transport with a doctorate in cognitive psychology, and is Chair of Engineering New Zealand's Transportation Group. Bridget regularly presents on inclusive access and road safety to audiences of transport professionals and community, with a focus on challenging us all to think about what ‘best practice’ means for the people we work with, and those we serve.

Allie is the laboratory manager for the Transportation Research Group at the University of Waikato. Her presentation centres on the results of her Master's thesis, which focuses on how cycling facilities, feelings of safety and cyclists' speed choices interact. Generally, she is interested in understanding factors that shift mode choice, keep vulnerable road users safe, and improve cities' livability for everyone.

Justine is a Papamoa local with family history in the area going back to the 1800s. She grew up mostly in Taupo, aside for a stint in Rarotonga and Aussie, to outdoorsy parents who were originally from Kapiti. Sport has been a big part of Justine's life and her children have followed suit, taking up multiple sports and all the travel that entails. Transport Design and Safety was a career path sparked by a fatal car crash during high school that killed a friend. Most of Justine's career has been working on behalf of Road Controlling Authorities on Network Management contracts. Justine currently works on the local One Network Maintenance contract in the Head Contractor role for WSP.

Road to Hero – Becoming a Chartered Transport Planning Professional

Gemma is passionate about people-centric design and how we shape place and space within our urban environments, to ensure communities are healthy and liveable, resilient, and are well connected by multi-modal transport where people can move around safely and efficiently. Working as a Senior Transportation Engineer at Christchurch City Council, Gemma specializes in planning and designing for active modes and public transport movements and has a key interest in safe streets and places. Her design experience includes all forms of streetscape and intersection design including roundabouts and traffic signals for intersection upgrades and safety improvements. She had a leading role in promoting safe outcomes for all road users on the network by incorporating Safe System thinking through planning and design. Gemma is the current Chair of the Transport Planning Society Aotearoa New Zealand.

Jo is a Transportation Planner with 20 years’ experience in the private and public sectors gained in the UK and New Zealand. Jo has experience in project delivery, procurement, consenting, travel planning, cycle design, transport assessments, public consultation, economic evaluation and transport modelling. Jo has developed a specific skillset in public consultation and how it relates to consenting processes. She has also led a number of community consultation exercises, spearheading and facilitating meetings with landowners and key stakeholders and responding to feedback from these events. Jo has managed investigations of large scale roading projects, contributing to technical decisions and project management of business cases. She has experience in all aspects of project investigation from procurement, project planning, risk management, option development, design, contract management and stakeholder management. Jo is passionate about delivery through effective teamwork. She takes pride in quality outputs. She understands the importance of making and maintaining good relationships to enable project delivery. Jo used her teamworking and leadership skills in her current Land Development team leader role as well as her previous role as Chair of the NZ Transport Agency’s Wellington Regional Management Team, administrator for the Wellington IPENZ Transportation Group and administrator for a local tennis club.

Dr Lorelei Schmitt is a Principal Multi-Modal Advisor at Waka Kotahi. There she leads a project to develop public transport design guidance for New Zealand and provides specialist multi-modal advice for a range of projects across New Zealand, notably, related to public transport design and travel demand management. She has a diverse background in transport planning and engineering, urban planning and psychology. Lorelei has worked in government, consulting and academia.
