Jared Thomas is Technical Director of Human Factors at WSP Research and Innovation. He is passionate about understanding the needs, strengths and limitations of our people to ensure we provide thoughtful solutions to complex challenges like older driver safety and mobility.
Bill Frith has managed many large-scale research projects and reviews relating to road safety, road transport and policy development. He has written and spoken extensively as an advocate and technical expert on road safety and other areas of land transport. Bill has had a career-long interest and involvement in older road user safety and mobility.

Amy’s areas of specialty are: socially complex projects, behavioural analysis to inform design, consultation, effective communication and engagement with a behavioual focus, and social research. Leading innovation has been at the forefront of Amy’s work in the drive to be highly effective and effect change, which has established her as a leader in her field. Amy has been working with Local Government and Waka Kotahi – NZ Land Transport Agency in Transport Choices over the past year.

Ross McPhie is starting out in his career with just over 3 years in the profession. He is passionate about helping to create more connected and safer communities by supporting modeshift and designing for all members of the community through his work. Ross is always wanting to learn and believes everything could be completed slightly better or in an improved manner and it is very important for these learnings to be shared throughout the industry so that every project improves on the last.
In his personal life, his partner Ellie is tired of talking about buses, bikes, development and all things infrastructure. His two-year-old twins on the other hand are very excited by buses, bikes, planes, and trucks so there is hope yet! He spends his free time getting into the beautiful outdoors that Nelson offers as much as he can with whānau and friends.

Sarah is a Senior Engineering Geologist with 12 years of experience across a range of sectors including natural hazards and emergency response, transport, and civil infrastructure. Sarah has been involved in a number of natural disaster recovery programmes in New Zealand, including SCIRT, NCTIR, and more recently the Cyclone Gabrielle response.
Grant Maxwell (co-author) is one of Australasia's most experienced storm event response and recovery leaders. A Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer with over 24 years’ experience specialising in geotechnical engineering, resilience, disaster preparedness and management, client management and project leadership. Grant has extensive experience in resilience related project delivery specifically through disaster recovery programmes.

A policy and funding framework for community transport

I am Managing Director of my own transport planning and management consultancy business - Taith Consulting Limited.
I have 27 years post-qualification experience in transport planning, with particular focus on high level policy advice, sustainable transport strategy, feasibility studies, business cases, transport and economic development, public transport (bus and rail) planning and programme management.
My main experience has been working with UK central government (especially the Department for Transport), Local Transport Authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships. I have lived and worked in New Zealand since January 2018, and feel very lucky to be here.
I have worked for Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, and most recently Bay of Plenty Regional Council. I have significant experience in all aspects of public transport planning, business cases and operational delivery.
Most recently I have been working on community transport projects in Greater Wellington, Otago and Bay of Plenty.
