Biography

Michael is a Technical Director at Flow Transportation Specialists, and walks a fine line between Transport Engineer and Transport Planner. His particular area of expertise is in walking, cycling and micromobility, and he endeavours to create healthier, more active and better-connected communities through all his projects. His background in transport engineering, multi-modal transport modelling, and active modes planning and design gives him a unique set of skills, covering both the technical and the human drivers and levers that affect mode choice in our cities.

Biography

Louise Baker is a transport planner at Resolve Group with over 20 years' experience in transport planning across New Zealand and the UK. She brings a collaborative, systems-based approach to designing resilient, people-centred transport solutions. In 2024, Louise received the Biennial Transport Planner Award from the Transport Planning Society NZ. Louise is passionate about helping cities to find their place in Nature. Last year, she led a project team that designed a Nature-based Solutions trial on Auckland’s motorway network, a project funded through NZTA's Crown Resilience Programme.

Biography

Ella is a Principal Transport Planner in Auckland Transport’s Active Modes Infrastructure and Planning team. She was the active modes planning lead and co-author of AT's Cycle & Micromobility Programme Business Case, leading the development and application of a prioritisation framework to inform AT's 10-year cycling investment programme. With a passion for sustainable transport and urban development and a diverse background in economics, infrastructure advisory and transport planning, Ella is interested in driving transformational change and contributing to better outcomes for communities and the planet. Outside of work, she enjoys being out in nature with her daughter and husband (often exploring by bike!), playing indoor netball and a weekly pub quiz with friends.

Increasing active transport in NZ – what are the most effective interventions?

Biography

Dr Elliot Fishman has 20 years’ experience as a sustainable mobility specialist. He completed his PhD at the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety on the topic of shared micromobility. He is ranked by Stanford University in the top 2% of scientists globally for his contributions to transport. His work has been published in the top-ranking industry journals including the British Medical Journal and the Journal of Transport Geography. He has advised the Australian Prime Minister’s Office on sustainable mobility as well as the New York City Department of Transport and Transport for London regarding bike share. Since 2005 has been the Director at the Institute for Sensible Transport.

Biography

Steven is a Transportation Engineer in Stantec’s Christchurch team and has solid foundational knowledge of transportation planning (including economic analysis), transportation engineering, road safety, and transport design. The breadth of his interests allows Steven to be versatile and apply problem-solving techniques on a wide variety of transport projects. His experience in all facets of transportation is expansive. It ranges across the following fields: economic evaluations, road safety engineering, traffic engineering, transportation design, cost estimations, and data analysis. Since the start of his career, Steven has developed a reputation for being a quick learner and has rapidly grown as a transportation engineer.
