Hamish is Co-Director of Mackie Research and has 24 years of research and consultancy experience in various areas of human factors and ergonomics, with the last 18 years spent mostly in the transport sector.
As a certified Human Factors professional, all of Hamish's work has the underlying theme of more human focussed systems and he has a particular focus on road safety and sustainable transport.

Irene Tse is the Transport Safety Technical Lead at Auckland Transport, providing expert safety advice and supporting infrastructure changes to maximise safety outcomes. Irene has developed and overseen the delivery of crash reduction studies, safer communities' programs, corridors and pedestrian improvements over the past 13 years to meet the strategic outcome of reducing casualties.
Irene embedded the Safe System Assessment process and contributed to AT’s safety operational protocols and practice notes. Irene has participated in national demonstration projects, including the Safe System Mix Used Arterial demonstration project and Self Explaining Road.

Simon Kingham is Ahorangi o te Matawhenua/Professor of Geography at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha/the University of Canterbury in Otautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand. He teaches and researches on a range of issues related to the impact of the urban environment on wellbeing, with a specific focus on transport. He was seconded to New Zealand government as their Kaitohutohu Matua Pūtaiao/Chief Science Advisor for Te Manatū Waka/the Ministry of Transport for six years till May 2024.

Kavita Campbell is a Customer Experience Lead at Auckland Transport, where she has worked since 2022. With over 15 years’ experience applying design thinking and CX across the digital sector, she now brings behaviour led insights to complex infrastructure and service environments. She works to embed real world customer needs into major transport projects, such as the City Rail Link, North West Rapid Transit, Drury stations, and improvements to the Northwest bus interchanges. Recently, she’s applied her learnings to the first edition Customer Experience chapter for the Transport Design Manual.
At this conference, she shares how she and the team are applying behaviour led insights to optimise the Northwest bus interchanges and support a safer, more resilient, people centred transport system.

John is a Principal Strategic Advisory and Te Ahi Tūtata - The Māori Advisory Business at Beca Ltd. Born in Whanganui and raised in the Wairarapa, John began his career in farming before attending Massey University. After a brief stint in Europe, he returned to New Zealand, spending nine years with Manukau and Christchurch City Councils and some time with an IT consultancy. John joined Beca in 2011 as a Project Manager and has had various roles since. With over 20 years of experience in various leadership roles, John remains passionate about integrating Te Ao Māori into Beca’s culture and projects.
John is of Te Ati Haunui-a-Pāpārangi and Pākeha descent and has served as the client relationship manager with Ngāi Tahu, driving the combined scholarship programme and delivery of outcomes for Mana Whenua. He co-founded Beca’s Te Ahi Tūtata Māori advisory group, which raises cultural awareness within the company and provides guidance to projects and relationships to Iwi Māori outcomes in delivery. John also sits on the Beca NZ Ltd Board as a Director and on several external bodies, sharing his thoughts and passion for industry growth in Te Ao Māori through podcasts and other platforms

Transportation engineering education in NZ: legacy, impact, and future

Dr Doug Wilson is an Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Waipapa Taumata Rau – University of Auckland (UoA). He directs the BE(Hons) Civil Engineering programme and the Transportation Research Centre. Doug leads research and teaching in transport infrastructure, safety, sustainability, and emerging transport technologies, with over 200 publications and more than $40M in research funding. He is UoA Campus Director for the US ASPIRE NSF Engineering Research Centre, a Board Member of Intelligent Transport Systems NZ, and part of European Union Connected, Cooperative and Autonomous Mobility (CCAM) network, contributing to global advancements in intelligent and sustainable transport systems.
