Biography

Stephanie is the Digital Product Manager at MetService, with responsibility for the metservice.com website and mobile app. Using a research driven development process, she has implemented numerous features such as the introduction of NZ's colour coded weather warning system, world-leading paddleboarding and kayaking safety forecasts and a partnership with FENZ that has led to a proven increase in awareness and understanding of the NZ Fire Danger Index. She is experienced in qualitative and quantitative research including authorship of the Ohio Civic Health Index. [Yesterday 3:54 pm] Stephanie Raill Sam is the Senior Designer, Customer and Commercial at MetService. His role includes responsibility for design, user research, prototyping, implementation and evaluation. He was the design lead for MetService's shift to colour coded weather warnings, ensuring the iconography was visually recognisable as well as accessible to users with colour blindness. Previously he worked on MetService's world leading WeatherScape broadcast weather graphics software, used by networks such as the BBC, Sky and Al Jazeera.

Frederick is a passionate transport sustainability specialist, whose focus is on connecting people through shared micromobility at beam. Beam's vision is to unlock the potential of our urban areas by turning short drives into better rides. Beam operates in 8 cities across NZ and puts safety first at the heart of everything it does. Beam is a leader in sustainability and creating values and positive experiences within the community. For Beam, equity means that our vehicles are accessible, in locations of place-value, complementary to state and local strategic development, and integrated with other modes - creating a rich multimodal ecosystem.

As an aeronautical engineer skilled in embedded systems and a graduate of a business school, he offers his technical knowledge and field experience to local authorities and parks, helping them to better understand their cyclist and pedestrian flows for greater efficiency. Based in Australia and now in New Zealand, he is committed to working closely with our local partners.

Bradley Minton: Operations Director, FOLKL: Bradley is passionate about active and public transportation, closely following global movements when it comes to mode shift and road space reallocation. He insists cargo bikes will solve many current issues. Bradley has a diverse analyst background and experience that includes qualitative research work in North American for Disney and Molson Canadian and undertaking quantitative analysis for Westpac Institutional Bank. Bradley is experienced in physical and digital product development and quantitative data analysis. Bradley heads up FOLKL’s proprietary VISION method which uses video analytics to understand how people and vehicles use space. Will Innes: Managing Director, FOLKL: BA/BCA Sociology, Media, Marketing, Film, Victoria University of Wellington. Will is an internationally recognised and awarded digital strategist and researcher with over a decade of experience. His expertise is in qualitative research, quantitative analysis and digital media/marketing and project management. Prior to co-founding FOLKL, Will managed and established the OMD Wellington digital team, which was responsible for the digital strategy of some of New Zealand’s largest businesses and organisations. Will is passionate about understanding communities, places and spaces from the ‘ground up’. He is an advocate for immersive research techniques, effective urban design and representation beyond the numbers.

Making traffic signals work for people cycling

Biography

Axel is a director of ViaStrada. He holds an ME (Civil) from Canterbury University and has been active as a transport engineer and planner in NZ since 1998, with some prior experience in Germany. He specialises in sustainable transportation, urban traffic engineering, traffic signals, road safety, research, and transport planning. He is the instigator of the planning and design training courses for cycling, with over 1,500 people having received tuition since 2003. He has presented 80 papers and remits at conferences and workshops in Australasia. Axel’s skills have been sought for projects with a national scope. He was a member of the Cycling Safety Panel, convened by the Transport Agency to advise the New Zealand government on cycling safety, and was technical advisor to the Ministry of Economic Development for the $50m NZ Cycle Trail project. He was ViaStrada’s team leader for the Cycling Network Guidance project that has given New Zealand its own planning and design guidance. He has undertaken research projects in New Zealand and Australia, and several formal trials in NZ. He was the team leader for New Plymouth’s $16.8m Transport Choices programme.
