Biography

Sarah Ulmer After a 12 year career of competitive international cycling, Sarah has spent nearly 20 years working to encourage more people on bikes. She is passionate about normalizing biking in her hometown of Cambridge and working to break down barriers facing people to ride. In competitive retirement, Sarah created a women's only bike brand, running events around the country for 5 years. She was a trustee of the Te Awa River Ride Charitable Trust for ten years, a near $40m, 65km multipurpose path - now complete with over 200k users per year. She created a Cambridge Cycling Festival, closing the main street of Cambridge and now a popular community event into its 7th year. She drove a local Innovating Streets project in Cambridge that led to over $15m of permanent cycling infrastructure. She created Bicycle Revolution Cambridge (BRC), a community-run organization that now runs a series of events and initiatives designed to encourage the Cambridge community to hop on two wheels around town. Sarah currently works as the Trail Manager for the Te Awa River Ride and the Manager of Bicycle Revolution Cambridge (BRC).

Biography

Frank has significant experience working with multiple stakeholders and other professionals throughout the lifespan of a project. His applied research and design thinking is grounded in a holistic approach to land and people. Communicating strategies or trends in a simple yet effective way ensures the targeted audience understand the key element of a project. More recently, Frank has taken on roles supporting the Paneke Pōneke work. He has been instrumental in helping to deliver the multiple transitional programmes as well as related projects such as the Brooklyn Road cycle lane.

Biography

Iris has international experience working with developers, architects, and engineers to understand change and identify innovative solutions to future-proof the built environment. She brings trend analysis, quantitative & qualitative research, and vision planning to create strategies that deliver regenerative outcomes. Iris also understands the importance of communicating research and sharing ideas in visually engaging ways that help clients & community navigate the complexities of change and implementation. She has worked across different scales and industries ranging from transport, to healthcare, film, food and tourism which gives her a holistic perspective on master planning and urban design. She has a particular interest on the impact future transport modes and behaviours will have on our built environment and public urban spaces. Iris has recently been instrumental in developing Timaru’s tactical masterplan and urban design strategy.

Richard Young has over four decades of experience in the delivery of major infrastructure around the world. He previously led the delivery of the Waikato Expressway for Waka Kotahi. He has a broad technical knowledge of highways and infrastructure, and master’s degrees in both geotechnics and business. He brings pragmatic real-world experience and commercial rigour to deliver evidence-based analysis. His SmartSense business provides traffic, multimodal and people movement analytics, and he has the tools and skills to enable actionable decisions to be made from large complex volumes of data. As a Chartered Civil Engineer, Richard is committed to provide trusted impartial advice to decision makers on how to build more sustainable, resilient infrastructure. With climate change and other unprecedented challenges facing society Richard is committed to work with the best and brightest engineering minds to find innovative solutions to those challenges.

Subha is a Senior Transport Planner with AECOM New Zealand. She has been in the field of Transportation Planning for the past 7 years and delivered some major transport advisory and infrastructure projects in UAE and New Zealand. Her diverse experience has been instrumental in many transport and land-use integration projects across both regions. Subha is passionate about creating integrated, safe and liveable communities within urban cities. She has worked on city-shaping projects which includes accessibility modelling, multi-modal travel time analysis, PT and active mode planning. She believes in shaping the future of transport by designing for environmentally conscious travel options like cycling, walking and public transport. She is a skilled data analyst, practising latest advances in transport industry and enhancing technical practise groups.
